A covered bridge in Canada. Why covered? Before widespread use of fossil fuels, there was no easy way of keeping massive amounts of snow and ice from accumulating on the bridge road surface. Easy to land in the river. A covered bridge solved that problem. Which would you rather have; covered bridges all over the cold regions of the world or fossil fuels to power snowplows?
