John W Landis was a charter member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS), joining in 1955. In 1971, he was elected as the 17th president of ANS. He was a Fellow of ANS. In 1996, he was named an “international nuclear statesman.” From 2010 until his passing in 2013, he gave tremendous support to John Shanahan's efforts for public education about nuclear energy.
