Steve Weismantel: Many scary scenarios have described the purported consequences of so-called man-made global warming (aka climate change) which is supposedly caused by the burning of fossil fuels and their CO2 emissions. The government has relentlessly used its many resources to push the CO2-causal theory, including nongovernmental entities who are vested in any climate crisis. The historic record, however, contradicts the CO2 theory and “sky will be falling” predictions.

Al Gore, the IPCC, alarmist modelers and researchers, and EPA’s “social cost of carbon” scheme and carbon dioxide “endangerment” decision have all depended on the climate bogeyman. With worldwide refinery closures outpacing new construction, shortages and inflation are likely to be the new norm that inflicts regressive expenses upon those that can least afford it, as control of the worldwide refining industry shifts to Asia and Europe.

As the world has become impassioned with increasing its electricity generation from wind turbines and solar panels from breezes and sunshine, the world is silently slipping into a future of shortages and inflation as society’s demands for all the products and fuels manufactured from crude oil is exceeding the supply available from the dwindling number of refineries.

John Eidson, electrical engineer: The people who try to scare kids about global warming say that picture shows that polar bears are starving due to melting Arctic ice that’s driving away seals, their primary food source. Maybe the bear was so old that it could no longer hunt. Maybe its mother died before she could teach it how to find other prey when the local seal population migrates. Or maybe the people who took that picture went to the Arctic on a mission to find a skinny polar bear to photograph no matter how long it took. Alternate possibilities for that bear’s condition are never mentioned by the people who lead kids to think that a picture of a skinny polar bear is proof that global warming is destroying the planet.

Germany's cost of switching to wind and solar energy for electricity, abandoning nuclear and coal will cost far more than 600 billion Euros and leave the country with precarious and expensive electrical energy. The problem of fossil fuels for space heating, process heat and transportation will still be there. Germany's decision to go 100% for wind and solar generated electrical energy will have very close to zero affect on climate change which is and always will be dominated by natural factors. Germany's potential enemies smile.

The success of democracy, liberty and prosperous capitalistic economies in Europe depends on Europe sticking with fossil fuels and nuclear. Because there are no other choices, Europe will have to stick to fossil fuels for most needs for space heating, process heat and transportation. France leads the way with nuclear powered electrification of railroads and urban public transportation. Not even Europe is close to following France in this area. Yet energy experts in France predict that the whole world can/will be powered by nuclear energy in less than 50 years.

Kelvin Kemm, South Africa: I believe that,when people look back at the history of 1970 to 2015, they will wonder how a sophisticated, technological society could be so misled by proponents of human-induced climate change, when so much scientific evidence is available to show that clear logical alternatives are available to the hysterical incantations of the doom-and-gloom cult.

Everybody in the nuclear industry is familiar with the erroneous conclusion that since power plants emit radiation it is dangerous. The problem is one of scale, or course. Exposure to radiation from a power plant is minuscule, but non-zero, and that gets mathematically challenged people up in arms.

The Climate Constraint Equation cannot be used for predicting future climate; however, it provides a constraint on models. It cannot tell what will happen, but it does tell what cannot happen. Any model that results in an unbalanced equation is wrong, pure and simple.

Think of the cries of the anti-nuclear crowd that a fraction a millirad of radiation dose is dangerous. Now think of the decades-long daily drumbeat telling us that everything bad can be attributed to “climate change” and that you are responsible for destroying the planet. There are literally thousands of such claims and all of them are false.

When that time comes, and it will, the proponents of nuclear power who got on the “climate change” bandwagon to promote nuclear power at the expense of fossil-fuel power will be beset with claims that “YOU LIED TO US!” The nuclear industry is in no need of such opposition.

But recall, barely 15 years after Edwin Drake drilled the first successful oil well in 1859, a Pennsylvania geologist was saying the United States would run out of oil by 1878. Steadily improving technology and geological acumen kept finding more oil. Then the horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing (fracking) revolution postponed the demise of oil and natural gas production for at least another century. The fuels that brought wealth, health, longevity, and modern industrialization, transportation, communication and civilization to billions will continue doing so.

Predicting disaster for humanity and environmental doom became the means by which government power could be expanded, even if the record of such prophesies is dismal.
